Andrés Fajardo is co-founder and CEO of Clever Leaves and has previously served as Managing Director, President and Chairman of the Board. He has led the development of its first 18 Hectares of GACP and EU-GMP certified cultivation and post-harvest facilities, the design and construction of a GMP certified extraction and formulation plant, and the development of a robust pipeline of clients and brands. Andres oversees the development, expansion and marketing plans globally.
Prior to Clever Leaves, Mr. Fajardo was a Founding Partner of Mojo Ventures, a unique late-stage company builder focused on working with startups and small companies to achieve unprecedented growth and profitability. Before being an entrepreneur, Mr. Fajardo was President/CEO at IQ Outsourcing, a leading Colombian business process outsourcing firm that is part of the Sanford Group of Companies. Prior to joining IQ, Andres was a Principal Member at Booz & Company, a management consulting firm, based in Mexico City. Sponsored by Booz Allen, Mr. Fajardo obtained an MBA at Harvard Business School. He earned aB.S. Industrial Engineering and B.S. Economics, with honors, from Los Andes University in Colombia.
Hank Hague is the Chief Financial Officer for Clever Leaves. Mr. Haguehas extensive experience in providing financial leadership to various public and private entities in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, and cannabis industries. Most recently, Mr. Hague served as CEO at Aidance Scientific, an FDA-registered manufacturer of branded and private label OTC topical medications. Prior to this role, Mr. Hague was CFO of Abacus Health Products where he led the company’s public listing and the acquisition and integration of Harmony Hemp. Mr. Hague also managed the due diligence and sale process of Abacus to hemp-derived wellness product producer and distributor, Charlotte’s Web Holdings, Inc. Additionally, Hague has held CFO roles at Foster Corporation and Scott Brass. Mr. Hague graduated from Bentley University with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
Julián Wilches is Clever Leaves’ Colombia co-founder and Chief Regulatory Officer of the global company. Mr. Wilches is in charge of structuring and maintaining the company’s relationship strategies and policies with different stakeholders of interest, including governments, regulators and communities. Prior to Clever Leaves, Mr. Wilches acted as Director of Drug Policy for the Colombian Ministry of Justice and Law and was Advisor on the Presidential Programme against Illicit Crops. He was also the Deputy Director of Interinstitutional Articulation at the Attorney General’s Office. Additionally, he served as a Consultant and Advisor to the Ministry of Culture, the Colombian Institute for Rural Development – Incoder, and the “Coordination of the Culture of Law” Project – NSIC. Julian earned a B.A. in Political Science from Los Andes University and a Master’s in journalism from Alcalá de Henares University.
David Kastin is the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Clever Leaves where he leads the company’s global legal and compliance function. Previously, Mr. Kastin served as the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of The Vitamin Shoppe, an omni-channel specialty retailer. Mr. Kastin has more than 25 years of experience in the legal profession with experience in representing companies in all facets of their business. Previously, he served as General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Town Sports International Holdings, Inc., a leading owner and operator of health and fitness clubs in the Northeast, United States, Deputy General Counsel at Toys “R” Us, Inc., and he worked at several prominent New York law firms, including Bryan Cave LLP. He began his career as Staff Attorney in the Northeast Regional Office of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Mr. Kastin graduated from The George Washington University with a degree in Finance and graduated from The Benjamin N. Cardoza School of Law, with a J.D. degree. Mr. Kastin is a member of the New York and New Jersey bar.
Andrew is Head of Commercial for EMEA, North America, and Asia- Pacific and has more than 20+ years experience advising executives and companies on accelerating financial and operational growth in industries such as Cannabis, Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, Medical Devices, Banking and Not-for-profit organizations. Before joining Clever Leaves, Andrew advised more than 100 companies around the world, including 3M, Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts, The Bank of Nova Scotia, Philips, Becton Dickinson, and the YMCA on developing and implementing successful growth strategies.Miller has written two commercially published books as a key player in operational excellence: “Redefining Operational Excellence” (AMACOM, 2014), and “The Unified Theory of Profitability” (Business Expert Press, 2016).
Gustavo Escobar is co-founder and Global Director for Clever Leaves’ Flower business, responsible for the company’s business development and strategic alliances.
Gustavo was responsible for the creation and construction process of the company in the first 3 initial years and was able to establish the operational footprint of Clever Leaves in Colombia. He then led the innovation projects, the development of the first products, and the genetic developments that guaranteed the initial offering of the company’s portfolio.
With a professional career of over 18 years, Gustavo combines his corporate experience with his entrepreneurship skills. For 12 years he was part of the IQ team, Sanford Group in Colombia, executing management functions, contributing to international expansion, leading commercial management, and implementing technology-based projects primarily in the health sector. Additionally, he has experience in providing services to the financial, telecommunications, agrobusiness, and pharmaceutical sectors.
Gustavo holds an MBA from Universidad de los Andes and a B.E. degree in Information Technology Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
Nuno is the Country Manager at Clever Leaves Portugal. He has led the Portuguese operations since January 2019, contributing to the construction of the physical infrastructure, to the acquisition of the farm and the development of the industrial projects. Additionally, Nuno was responsible for the selection of the human talent and he monitored the certification and licensing processes of the Company in Portugal. Prior to Clever Leaves (then Northern Swan), Nuno led his own Consultancy Firm, specializing in agri-business strategic development. He was also the Marketing and Sales Director at Unilever, Director of Operations for Southern Europe and R&D at Driscoll’s. He holds an MSc degree in Agronomy (Agricultural Economics) from the Instituto Superior de Agronomia in Technical University of Lisbon.
Caroline is Managing Director at Clever Leaves Germany and has led the German pharma and medical cannabis markets. She has been responsible for bringing structured, commercial pharma expertise together with individualized medicine approaches needed in a broad range of indications.Prior to Clever Leaves, Caroline served as Director of Sales & Operations at Tilray Germany where she launched the first medical cannabis extracts into the German market after the 2017 law change. After studying Pharmacy at the University of Hamburg, Caroline also held multiple leadership positions during her 15-year tenure at Astra Zeneca Germany, from regional sales management to commercial head of oncology, leading teams of 150 employees. With 20 years of operational leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry, covering disease areas such as Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, Pain, Cardiovascular and Gastro-intestinal disease.
Camilo is the Head of Colombia for Clever Leaves and he is in charge of the local operations, including cultivation facilities, extraction plant, product development, quality, supply chain and local regulatory matters. Previously, Camilo served as Global Head of Product of Clever Leaves where he coordinated all the product development efforts for the company.
Before Clever Leaves, Camilo worked for more than 10 years in management consulting working with clients in the U.S. and Latin America in the consumer goods, industrial, energy and financial sectors. After his career as a consultant, Camilo joined the cannabis industry as part of the investment team of Northern Swan Holdings (Clever Leaves´ financial sponsor) where he acted as VP for Latin America in charge of sourcing and structuring new investment opportunities.
Camilo holds an MBA from Columbia Business School in NY and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Los Andes University in Colombia where he obtained a Cum Laude degree (top 3% of the class in the last 5 years).
